Easing the State & Local Tax Burden
Monday, September 23, 2:45 pm – 4:30 pm
It is way cheaper to stay in front of state and local tax (SALT) issues than fall behind. From deciphering nexus to apportioning taxes across 13,000 taxing jurisdictions with varying requirements (plus international considerations), SALT compliance is fraught with fiduciary risk and missteps are common. Monitoring and administering SALT properly takes vigilance and is often overlooked, resulting in notices and audits – which are on the rise. In addition, Colorado and other states have local home rule jurisdictions which must be managed in this complex terrain. Learn how to identify SALT triggers and smooth out the compliance burden to mitigate common errors and help avoid sanctions.
Learning Objectives
- Identifying trends in enforcement
- Monitoring nexus triggers
- Understanding leveraging automation & technology to streamline compliance
- Apportioning tax across jurisdictions
- Managing exemption certificates
