SUTS in Colorado: An update

The Colorado Department of Revenue continues to tweak the Sales and Use Tax System (SUTS) to further streamline and simplify tax filing for businesses.

Five years in, Colorado’s Sales and Use Tax System (SUTS) is still a work in progress. Launched in November 2020, SUTS is the Colorado Department of Revenue’s (CDOR) one-stop portal for filing and remitting sales and use tax. It allows businesses and municipalities to easily navigate the complex Colorado tax landscape. 

The CDOR tax division announced recently several major improvements to SUTS and new features intended to further shorten the time taxpayers spend filing sales and use tax while simplifying and streamlining the filing process for businesses.

SUTS users can: 

  • Determine sales tax jurisdictions and rates for thousands of addresses at a time for all taxing entities associated with a valid Colorado address 
  • Enter data directly into SUTS in addition to uploading a simple spreadsheet, and 
  • Add locations in SUTS
