
The Tax Foundation has compiled an extensive list of bills enacted, introduced and under consideration in 33 states to advance tax reform and relief. Only two states are working in the opposite direction.
The Tax Foundation has compiled a list of major state tax changes that have been enacted, advancing, and worth keeping an eye on. Among the items under consideration for change includes:
- Income tax reductions have been enacted in Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, and Utah, and are under consideration in Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. Mississippi’s rates will be flattened and reduced when the Governor signs legislation.
- Corporate income tax rate reductions have been enacted in Idaho, Iowa, and Utah, and under consideration in Colorado, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. New Mexico has enacted a permanent sales tax rate reduction.
- Changes in sales taxes on groceries are under consideration in Kansas (reduction) and Illinois, Oklahoma, and Tennessee (suspension).
- Temporary relief measures are under consideration in Connecticut, Georgia, and Maryland (gas tax suspension) and await the governor’s signature in Florida.
- A new sales tax holiday has been enacted in Connecticut, and two new sales tax holidays await the governor’s signature in Florida.
- Income tax rebates have been enacted in Georgia and Idaho.
- Only two states, Hawaii and Massachusetts, have introduced proposals to raise taxes.
